A woman was bitten by a shark while surfing at Rockaway Beach. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police and FDNY searched the waters for more sharks.
The 50-year-old was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. FDNY says the injury appears to be on her leg.
NYPD drones went up and searched the waters for sharks for an hour or so before sunset, trying to determine if there were more around. NYC Parks says they are working with NYPD and FDNY to do enhanced surveillance of the beach on Tuesday before opening. Rockaway Beach will have a delayed opening until at least 11 a.m.
