The victim was identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as 21-year-old Odalys Vianney Madrigal.A woman is dead after she escaped VIA Transit police and was struck by a car on the Northwest Side overnight, according to San Antonio police.Police said a VIA Transit police officer was parked at a parking lot near the I-10 West access road when a woman approached his car.The officer called for EMS and requested a female officer, officials said.
The woman became confrontational while the officer was assisting her, so the officer restrained her for her safety, officials said. Before the ambulance arrived, the woman ran across the westbound lanes of I-10. A vehicle that was driving on the westbound lanes of I-10 was unable to avoid the woman and struck her, police said.The driver of the vehicle did stop to render aid and no charges are pending.
VIA officials said the officer involved has served for four years with VIA Transit Police and has a record of honorable service.
