Durham police say being busy and having other things to do is not a reason to drive away from an officer if you’re pulled over. The officer stopped the woman because she had a licence plate that had been expired for two years. As he was reviewing her vehicle information, she drove off.
A short chase led the officer to her home, where she got out and informed him he was “taking too long and she had other things to do.” She tried to run into her home, but the officer stopped her. She was detained again and when she finally handed over her driving and vehicle documents, they were all expired.
The 36-year-old woman is charged with fail to stop for police, fail to provide required document, driver motor vehicle – no permit and windshield obstructed. Police say if you are pulled over by an officer, the law requires you to stop and stay there until the officer’s investigation is complete. Once the officer concludes their investigation and lets you leave, you can drive away. If you fail to follow an officer’s instructions or flee a traffic stop, you will be charged.
