The fatal blaze ripped through the first floor of the two-storey home in Lambeth early this morning.Around 25 firefighters tackled the flames on Railton Road shortly after 4am and quickly rescued a woman from the first floor.Two men managed to leave the mid-terraced property unhurt before the fire brigade arrived.
It took almost an hour to get the fire under control. Its cause will be investigated by London Fire Brigade. A spokesperson said: "Sadly a woman has died in a house fire on Railton Road in Lambeth this morning. "Firefighters tackled a fire at a mid-terraced, two-storey house where half of the first floor was completely destroyed by the fire.
"Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued a woman from the first floor of the property, sadly she died at the scene.
