A judge on Wednesday ruled Imane McRae not guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a man in 2021.

Marion County Judge Shatrese Flowers on Wednesday ruledcould not be proven guilty of voluntary manslaughter beyond a reasonable doubt in the death of 23-year-old Jesus Medrano, who died in February 2021, three weeks after being shot in the head in a McDonald's parking lot.

"We dismissed the attempted murder charge and pursued voluntary manslaughter as that statute was most appropriate given the facts and evidence of the case," a spokesperson for the Marion County Prosecutor's Office said Thursday afternoon.McRae's attorney, Heather Dean-Barton, told IndyStar they are happy with the decision while extending condolences to the Medrano family.

Surveillance footage, the affidavit said, showed Medrano pull his car behind a gray Honda parked at the drive-thru shortly before the gunfire. Records said the video further showed Medrano arguing with women in the Honda and he appears to hit their car with his from behind. He then gets out of the car, looks at his bumper and continues to argue.
