Troy Dettinger was a 29-year veteran of the Union Fire Hose and Company #1 when he died from a heart attack earlier this week.

Governor Tom Wolf has ordered all commonwealth flags on public buildings in York County to fly at half-staff to honor Dettinger, the Union Fire and Hose Company #1 chief of Dover, Pennsylvania.State flags will by flown at half-staff until sunset on Monday, the day of Dettinger’s funeral. “All Pennsylvanians are invited to participate in this tribute,” Wolf’s office said in a press release.
“It’s a shock to the station, the surrounding stations and also to the community,” Acting Fire Chief Gwainn McKeever said, according to the York Dispatch. “It’s not something you want to do as a member of any fire department is planning the funeral after the death of your chief during the line of duty.”
Dettinger’s viewing will occur Monday 4-8 p.m. at the Emig Funeral Home. The Union Fire & Hose Company #1 fire department will host a celebration of life Friday at 4 p.m. at its firehouse.
