from February 2022 until her release in a prisoner swap in December 2022, will be attending this year’s Met Gala. Griner — who was sent to a penal colony for allegedly having less than a gram of medically prescribed hash in her luggage while playing basketball abroad — appeared in New York City earlier this month at Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network’s Women’s Empowerment Luncheon at the Sheraton in New York where she pledged to help others detained overseas.
“I want to continue to fight to bring home every American detained overseas. That means everything to me,”It is unknown which fashion designer the Phoenix Mercury star will accompany to fashion’s biggest night. Griner was released from Russian prison in December during a prisoner swap.
