Sparks re-sign Lexie Brown and add Stephanie Talbot, but Brittney Sykes and Kristi Toliver leave for Washington; Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike have yet to sign
LOS ANGELES — The Sparks have made it abundantly clear that they value 3-point shooting.
“I think a championship is very doable with this group, if we all buy in, work really hard in camp and just have the same expectations and hold each other accountable. I don’t really like the world ‘rebuild.’ You’re setting yourself up to have low expectations and not achieve. I think if you guys want to call it a rebuild, that’s fine but we have championship aspirations for sure.”
“I think we’re bringing in a lot of amazing pieces,” Brown explained. “The new coaching staff is a staff that I’m very familiar with. It is pretty much the whole staff that drafted me in 2018, so to be able to be a part of a new program and new beginning but still having a little bit of familiarity is very important to me.
Sykes played the past three seasons with Sparks and was named to the WNBA All-Defensive team each season. The soon-to-be 29-year-old averaged 12.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals in 28.8 minutes per game last season. Hamby, whose relationship with the Aces soured after she became pregnant and her production dropped off, believes the Sparks are putting together an experienced roster.
“Not only are they world-class athletes and the best in the world at what they do on the basketball court, they have a lot of other aspirations and dreams and goals in their lives, including being mothers … we’re excited to welcome Dearica.”they acquired Thomas and the 10th overall pick in April’s draft
