The Sparks will be selecting 10th overall in the WNBA draft on Monday, when South Carolina's Aliyah Boston is expected to be the No. 1 pick.
The Indiana Fever, who own the top choice, just had to wait for the South Carolina star to make official that she was entering this year’s draft. Boston had the chance to return to South Carolina for her COVID season but opted to enter Monday night’s three-round draft.
The Sparks have three selections on Monday, beginning with the 10th overall choice. They also have the 14th and 26th picks. “It does make our world a little more complex,” WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a phone interview. “If I could have a fifth year, I would have definitely played. There wasn’t a WNBA back then. They have a loyalty to college, loyalty to fans. I see why you might want to do it. I know narratives about pay. They are competitors, they have loyalty to their schools. It has complicated our life a little bit, not knowing who’s going to come in.
