Top Hollywood agency WME just hired a new film agent, Daniel Cramer, who built his reputation as a comedy talent spotter with a newsletter curated for 2,000 industry insiders
Cramer, who cut his teeth in comedy as an undergrad at Oberlin College booking campus gigs for standups, quickly made a name for himself in Hollywood thanks to the Cramer Comedy Newsletter — a monthly missive he created that became a must-read in the industry. The newsletter shines a spotlight on disruptive talent in the comedy space, and is read by agents, producers, and entertainment execs who hold the power to launch their careers.
A spokesperson for WME confirmed the hire but declined to comment further. Cramer declined to comment. But in March, Cramer handed control over the newsletter to Carly Hoogendyk, a manager at Artists First and producer of a standup comedy showcase whom he appointed CEO. He also named a group of contributors"comprised of the next generation of comedy tastemakers who will keep this resource — and the community around it — alive, and ever improving," he wrote in an emailed announcement to industry contacts.
