Christi Paul will begin her regular role at WKYC Channel 3 on September 12, anchoring a new hour-long 5 p.m. weekday newscast. The former CNN personality will anchor the program, called “What’s Now,” alongside Carmen Blackwell.

The additional newscast means the current 5 p.m. news -- the lighter, faster-paced “What’s New” hosted by Betsy Kling and Jay Crawford -- will move to the 4 p.m. timeslot where “Dr. Phil” currently resides. “Dr. Phil” will switch to a new time an hour earlier at 3 p.m. with “Daily Blast Live” also moving, to 2 p.m. The additional hour of local news programming was made possible by the end of Ellen Degeneres’ talk show.

“3News at 6″ with Russ Mitchell and Laura Caso will continue to air at 6 p.m. Kling, Crawford, Mitchell and Caso will appear on the new 5 p.m. show, too. “Whether it’s Betsy and Jay sharing ‘What’s New’ at 4 p.m., Christi and Carmen giving viewers an update on what’s happening at 5 p.m., or Russ and Laura reporting the top breaking stories at 6 p.m., all of our broadcasts are focused on delivering content that our viewers tell us matters most to them,” said WKYC Director of Content Adam Miller.

The station is also adding a new national afternoon newscast. “NBC News Daily,” which will include local cut-ins anchored by Stephanie Haney and live weather reports from Kling, will air at 1 p.m. in the old “Days Of Our Lives” timeslot.
