Public plazas, a bike lane, and the children's library are some of the projects Vancouver might use the money on
government fund to help the province’s 188 municipalities and regional districts with infrastructure projects to support population growth.To start with, Vancouver is eyeing six projects — including turning pandemic patios permanent, expanding a Downtown Eastside firehall, and renovating the children’s library at Central Library — at a cost of $22.5 million.
Proposed projects for the remaining $23.6 million have not yet been decided, although they could include improvements to the Vancouver Aquatic Centre, new or renewed sports fields, and public washrooms. The city had already allocated $5.8 million to make one plaza permanent, plus make improvements to a number of smaller plazas and public spaces. Now staff is recommending $10 million be spent to convert three existing temporary plazas to permanent ones.
