Unsettled weather in the Gulf of Alaska will keep daily rain and snow for Southeast Alaska.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Active and unsettled weather in the Gulf of Alaska is leading to warmer conditions for the region. From Southcentral to Southeast Alaska, temperatures are 5 to 20 degrees warmer than this time Tuesday morning.
The vast majority of the warming has occurred in Southeast, where clouds and snow have made a return to the region. Winter weather advisories have been issued for parts of the Panhandle with the likelihood of seeing up to 9 inches of snowfall and winds gusting upwards of 40 mph. You’ll want to be prepared for lowering visibility in areas that manage to see some of the stronger winds.
The low churching through the Gulf of Alaska will keep most of the snow today fixated on the Panhandle, with just some light snow expected for coastal regions of Southcentral. As the low continues to move slowly to the east-southeast, we can expect to see some cloud breaks through the afternoon hours. This will primarily impact inland areas of Southcentral where partly sunny skies look to make an appearance both today and tomorrow.
Snow and areas of wintry mix will stick around Southeast through the rest of the week, with some gusty conditions to be expected. While today into early tomorrow looks to bring the best potential for snow, a new low moving out of the northern Pacific Ocean will set the stage for an active end to the work week.
Speaking of the end of the work week, this is the last full week of standard time. Saturday night remember to set your clocks forward as we usher in Daylight Saving Time, along with it we’ll see the return to colder conditions next week.2024 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Live BlogBitter cold air spills into Mainland Alaska with freezing spray in the Bering Sea
