Winter Storm Warnings are in place for Oklahoma, Idaho and Texas, with heavy snow and large hail possible

A winter storm with snow, severe thunderstorms and strong winds is moving into the central and southern parts of the country before it hits the Northeast later this week.

A winter storm will move into the Central and Southern Plains from Tuesday before heading toward the Northeast region later this week. Heavy snow and severe thunderstorms with strong winds and large hail are possible in the South, including in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, while a band of snow and ice will develop just north of the storm track, the National Weather Service warns.

The storm system has been building in the Rockies in the Northwest on Monday."Heavy snow will overspread the region today [Monday] along with strong gusty winds.

While the Northeast has been experiencing spring-like weather in recent days, temperatures will drop into the teens in northern New England and the 20s in western New York and central New England by Wednesday. Temperatures will dip a bit less from central Pennsylvania to southern New England where they will be in the 30s and the upper mid-Atlantic coast will be in the 40s,
