People from New York City to Maine awakened to half a foot of snow, and forecasters warned that could more than quadruple as a powerful nor’easter kicked up blizzard conditions with high winds and the potential for power outages and coastal flooding
began to whip through the eastern seaboard, dumping snow from South Carolina to Maine and creating blizzard-like conditions across parts of the Mid-Atlantic and coastal New England.
Snow fell at a rate of one to three inches per hour along much of the East Coast, according to the National Weather Service, with the highest accumulations of about 15 inches seen near the Jersey Shore. In Nantucket, off the Massachusetts coast, wind gusts blew at speeds of more than 50 miles per hour on Saturday morning.
