“I just can’t believe we’ve come to this place in society where we are starting to close bus stations as solutions rather than housing the homeless,” city councillor Craig Sauvé said. Those who do turn to public spaces for shelter “don’t want to be there,” Hughes says. “They didn’t grow up dreaming of sleeping on the stairs of a metro station.”
