Shavano Park Fire Department Capt. Ivan Hernandez has more than 20 years of firefighting and paramedic experience. He is also an arson investigator.The City of Windcrest selected Shavano Park Fire Department Capt. Ivan Hernandez to fill its open position.
In a city council meeting Monday night, Mayor Dan Reese, Councilmen Marcus Yax, Greg Turner and Wes Manning and Councilwoman Cindy Strzelecki voted to appoint Hernandez. Councilwomen Joan Pedrotti was absent from the meeting. Hernandez has more than 20 years of firefighting and paramedic experience. He is also an arson investigator.The city’s fire department has been without a chief since Daniel Kramer, who was hired March 2019, resigned in November.
In an Oct. 9 speech celebrating the arrival of $2 million worth of new firefighting equipment, Mayor Dan Reese revealed Kramer had accepted an offer from South Hays Fire Department.Assistant Fire Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator Robert Weidenbach, who began his career with the Windcrest Fire Department as a volunteer in 1996, was tapped to temporarily fill Kramer’s boots as officials began casting about for a replacement.
When asked how Hernandez’s salary would compare to Kramer’s, Reese said he could not disclose specific details.
