Wilson-Raybould makes case to stay in caucus as Butts releases texts GlobePolitics
Jody Wilson-Raybould says she understands why many Liberals are “angry, hurt and frustrated” with her, but the former attorney-general argues she is upholding the party’s election promise to “end the practice of governing in the shadows.”
The Liberal caucus meets Wednesday to decide the fate of Ms. Wilson-Raybould and fellow MP Jane Philpott, who resigned as Treasury Board President last month, citing a lack of confidence in how Mr. Trudeau handled the SNC-Lavalin matter.Ms. Wilson-Raybould’s testimony about high-level political interference in the justice system has jolted the Liberal party and polls show it could jeopardize the Trudeau government’s reelection.
Ms. Wilson-Raybould’s letter came on the same day that Mr. Trudeau’s former principal secretary, Gerald Butts, released text messages to the House justice committee. Those messages show how she tried to resist the Prime Ministers decision to shuffle her out of the Justice and Attorney-General portfolio in early January.
