Three months after appearing as a country music stranger on a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame ballot, Willie Nelson has been announced as part of the institution's 2023 class. Nelson is part of a group that represents the Hall's expansion beyond its name, joined by hip-hop artist Missy Elliott and R&B group the Spinners. Also to be inducted: Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, George Michael and Rage Against the Machine.

Nelson joints a select group of performers in the Rock Hall who are more identified with country music. Among the acts who are inductees in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame: Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Dolly Parton, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys, the Everly Brothers, Chet Atkins, Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams, Bill Monroe, Sam Phillips, Floyd Cramer and Jimmie Rodgers.

Those on the ballot who weren't selected this year: A Tribe Called Quest, New Order/Joy Division, the White Stripes, Warren Zevon, Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper and Iron Maiden. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony — the 38th — will take place Nov. 3 at the Barclays Center in New York.
