Klay Thompson's knee injury was the final development of a disastrous playoffs for the Warriors. But how will it impact their free agency plans?

But it wasn’t the biggest loss of the night. News broke after the game that Klay Thompson, who left the game in the third quarter after suffering a knee injury, only to return to hit two free throws, had torn his ACL. He was in the midst of a classic performance, with 30 points in just 32 minutes, and looked poised to help the Warriors push the series back to Toronto for a winner-take-all Game 7.
Then came Kevin Durant’s first injury, a calf strain that sidelined him until he came back a month later in Game 5 of the NBA finals, only to tear his Achilles tendon after playing just 11 minutes.
But for this to happen to Thompson, the Golden State Warriors' ironman, is unthinkable. Until these NBA finals, Thompson had never missed a playoff game. What lies ahead of him are months of rehabilitation, and potentially missing the entirety of next season.What also lies ahead of him, as with Durant, Looney and Cousins, is free agency. After Thompson, he’s now eligible for only a five-year, $190 million deal from the Warriors—not a supermax contract.
