An evacuation order was issued at noon Wednesday for Garden River, also known as Garden Creek, a settlement that's part of the Little Red River Cree Nation near High River.

People who live in a remote rural area in far northwestern Alberta are being ordered to leave their homes because a wildfire is threatening the only road out of the community.As of Wednesday afternoon the alert said Garden River itself is not in immediate danger; however, the Highway 58 access to Garden River is the concern.Sewepagaham added if the fire spreads, it could result in power outages due to transmission lines being burned.

The Semo Wildfire Complex is 39,955 hectares and was first detected at the beginning of the month. Alberta Wildfire believes it was sparked by lightning.‘Difficult moment of time’: Canadians struggling financially despite cooling inflation “We ask that drivers be mindful of safety on the roads,” the memo said. “Maintain a safe distance between vehicles and keep to safe speeds of 80 km/h or under. Smoke and dust may affect visibility and there will be increased traffic on the roads.”
