Wildfire smoke workshop aims to help Albertans protect themselves from dangerous effects of poor air quality
Heavy smoke from northern Alberta forest fires comes south to blanket the Bow River area in downtown Calgary, Tuesday May 16, 2023. Air quality statements continue to blanket much of British Columbia and the Prairie provinces as scores of wialdfires rage.
The Calgary Region Airshed Zone is hosting its first workshop on the health impacts of wildfire smoke on Monday in Canmore. “We rank hazards based on the likelihood that they will occur and the impact it has on the community. Extreme heat and poor air quality due to wildfire smoke were two hazards that were ranked high and they didn’t have associated emergency response plants for them.
