Crews are battling a wildfire that has consumed more than 500 acres and threatens dozens of homes Thursday morning in Palo Pinto County.

The Texas A&M Forest Service said the wildfire, named the Storage Fire, has charred 511 acres near Texas Highway 16 in the Possum Kingdom Lake area and is 40% contained as of Thursday morning. As many as 25 homes are threatened. "The fire is exhibiting moderate to extreme fire behavior at times and forward progression has not been stopped. Dozers are currently building firelines on the flanks of the fire," the forest service wrote in an update at 10 p.m.

According to officials, crews made progress Wednesday night using dozers to build a containment line on the flanks of the fire. Firefighters also conducted tactical firing operations to remove unburned vegetation between the containment line and active fire, officials said.
