Why Was Vision So Weak In Infinity War?

Despite having the Mind Stone, Paul Bettany's Vision failed to defend himself from Thanos and the Black Order in Avengers: Infinity War.

Paul Bettany's Vision couldn't do much during Avengers: Infinity War despite being an extremely powerful MCU hero. Designed by Ultron and completed by Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Thor, Vision was born strong enough to beat up Ultron effortlessly and innocent enough to lift Thor's Mjolnir.

Vision had to hold back during Iron Man and Captain America's fight in Captain America: Civil War, and he didn't believe in using brute force to resolve conflicts. Still, Vision's immense power would have been helpful in Avengers: Infinity War had the Avengers been prepared to face Thanos and his minions. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Captain America: Civil War's aftermath left the Avengers divided and with no way to communicate in a timely manner. While Thor, Loki, and Hulk were failing to defend the surviving Asgardians from Thanos and the Black Order, Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon were in hiding and Tony Stark was busy trying to live a relatively normal life with Pepper Potts. Every hero was unprepared for the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and Vision and Scarlet Witch were no exception, which allowed Thanos to strike and neutralize Vision early on, leading to his death within the same movie.Vision Was Damaged In Infinity War Although Vision preferred pacifism to combat, he was just as powerful at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War as he was in Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, Vision found a purpose in living a peaceful life with Wanda Maximoff far away from the Avengers' battles. Vision adopted a human form and kept a low profile with Wanda in Scotland, where both felt a connection between Vision's Mind Stone and Scarlet Witch's powers. But before they got a chance to settle, Thanos' henchman Corvus Glaive arrived and pierced Vision's chest with his blade. Since Vision was caught off-guard, he didn't have time to phase through the blade, and his synthezoid body began to malfunction. After Corvus Glaive's attack, Vision couldn't use his powers and remained badly wounded for the rest of the movie, which gave Thanos and the Black Order more freedom to confront the Avengers. The only solution Vision and the Avengers could find was asking the Wakandans for help, but even though Shuri almost cracked the code to back up Vision's consciousness, Thanos arrived. As an ultimate sacrifice, Scarlet Witch had to destroy Vision's Mind Stone, but unfortunately, Thanos simply rewound time with the Time Stone and stole the Mind Stone, killing Vision in the process. Vision's Power Level In Infinity War Makes His Death Even Sadder The feeling of powerlessness in Scarlet Witch and the Avengers' efforts to save Vision makes the synthezoid's death especially tragic, but what makes it even worse is that the MCU never let Vision show his full power. Vision always held back so he wouldn't cause more conflict than necessary, and just when the time came to save Earth, he barely could stand on his feet. In WandaVision, Scarlet Witch's reconstruction of Vision spent his short-lived existence being duped by Wanda, and he owed his victory over White Vision to his intellect rather than his power. After Westview collapsed, almost all traces of the original Vision disappeared. It seems like White Vision's consciousness has downloaded the original Vision's memories. While difficult, it's possible that White Vision will slowly transform into a slightly familiar version of the original synthezoid and remember Wanda Maximoff and the Avengers. Still, White Vision is the product of SWORD's attempts to rebuild Vision and use his body as a mindless weapon. Without the Mind Stone's power and without Ultron, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Helen Cho's input, White Vision may never be the same, and he likely won't ever be as powerful as the original.
