should have been furthest from Netflix's chopping block.There is so very little in the way of diverse representation in the superhero world, let alone a show where the lead superhero is Black AND a child.
While representation of marginalised groups is improving within this sector now is not the time to be stripping back on this kind of content. We don't get to chuck a few token ethnicities into the mix, pat ourselves on the back and then rest on our laurels with a 'job well done' kind of attitude. Black and Brown children need wholesome and aspirational representation and while the possibility of developing mind-moving powers is pretty slim the opportunity to see yourself as powerful and courageous should not be.ably without minimising the realities, helping children of all races make sense of racial biases in the world around them. Few shows successfully fit that bill in that respect.managed to champion diversity on multiple layers.
It was also refreshing to see a single Black working mother presented as not a figure of shame or someone who needs explaining away to be acceptable to society. Nicole Warren was bold despite her fears, capable and in little need of saving.
