As the first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump approaches, voters are anticipating their face-off. While some hope for detailed policy discussions, others may tune in for the political drama. At Yahoo Finance, our focus remains on economics and markets.

Um, last week that once again, sort of reinforce some of the jitters that are out there about what's going on in the labor market and in the broader economy now, um for folks who are watching and listening, you actually are based most of the time in London these days. But I am curious what your thoughts are on the whole question of soft landing and where we stand right now.

I think the, the inflation data that comes out uh over the next uh few days uh could provide a little more impetus uh in the direction of 50 uh which I happen to kind of marginally fade for because I think the the balance of risks has shifted now away from inflation re accelerating or being too high uh and more toward uh employment, slowing uh too much. There are cer certainly some analysts and strategists and economists who think that the fed should have been cutting already.

Uh, uh, and yet they all worry a little bit that the fed is a little bit behind the, the eight ball, uh, and that the economy, uh, might weaken. So, uh and then mo most forward looking of all but not quantitative is uh you know, so and so has called us and wants to talk to us about this. I, if you're looking at sort of the percentages of, of how much that's a factor versus say, economic uncertainty or some of the other things we were talking about how, how heavy a waiting is that right now?

I think the uh and I, but what I did say is at the end of the day, uh when uh President Biden came in that uh Antitrust ultimately for antitrust policy to change dramatically, you need a change in law.So, uh no question, the FTC and the justice department have been somewhat more aggressive than under President Biden uh than in the previous administration.

There was a recent report um by Bloomberg that Wall Street donors have been pushing uh Kamala Harris to replace some of the top regulators.

Um, right, we've heard former president Donald Trump saying that, uh, he would certainly extend corporate tax cuts.Kamala Harris's clause talked about raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent from 21%.Um, how are you thinking about those issues?I think the, uh, the real issue for corporate tax rates in the United States is that our corporate tax rate has to be competitive with our principal competitors globally.

Uh, and so there's gonna be a massive discussion who's president will have a huge effect uh, on that. Uh, and, you know, there'll be some compromise because I suspect we'll not have a Democratic House Senate and uh presidency. Uh, uh, I happen to be notwithstanding the fact or maybe this makes me, I, I'm very unusual in the financial community.
