Suddenly every guy we know is asking 'What is a chore coat and do I need one?' (Probably.)
FOR OVER 100 years starting around the early 1900s, many workers throughout France toiled away in a veste de travail, a marine-blue cotton work coat with three front pockets to secure their nails, seeds, lures or whatever supplies they needed.
The purpose of this jacket—now known in stylish circles as a chore coat—was to last “for 10, 20 years, 30 years if necessary,” said Alexandre Milan, the president of Le Mont Saint Michel, a company in the bucolic Brittany region that has produced moleskin versions, originally for local farmers and craftsmen, since 1913.
