Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been criticized by human rights groups for enabling growing persecution of religious minorities and crackdowns on free expression.

, Human Rights Watch said the BJP government has “continued its systematic discrimination and stigmatization of religious and other minorities, particularly Muslims,” adding that supporters of the party have “increasingly committed violent attacks against targeted groups.”
