Archaeologists are taking actions to preserve some ancient Roman graffiti, including one explicit enough that it lends some legitimacy to schoolboy doodlers everywhere.
The graffiti was carved into sandstone at a quarry in northern England when the soldiers were tasked with repairing Hadrian's Wall in the third century CE.Although the inscriptions were rediscovered in the 1700s, they are only now being preserved by 3D recording, to protect them from erosion.This image of a penis could have been intended to ward off misfortune, an expert said.
