Council Vice President Zach Adamson, 30-year veteran Monroe Gray and two term member David Ray lost their primary battles.

Voters interviewed by IndyStar said they voted for Brown because he was more progressive and they felt Adamson wasn't responsive to their concerns, particularly over his co-authorship of. Brown said it was this proposal that prompted him to run for City-County Council. Outspent by Adamson by more than double, Brown ran a grassroots campaign, knocking on 7,300 doors and sending up to 11,000 texts, he said. Almost 90% of his 60-odd-person volunteer base came from members of the Democratic Socialists of America, he said.
