A handful of the living met their ends tonight during the Battle of Winterfell.
After seasons of anticipation, Game of Thrones fans finally witnessed the dead fall on Winterfell in Sunday night’s episode of the fantasy series. As expected, the army of the dead took a toll on the living tonight, though fewer lead-character deaths were presented than many fans expected.
Beric Dondarrion died protecting Arya Stark from a slew of White Walkers. The three first deaths were some of the fastest, with little time for fans to mourn the losses. As the battle came to a close, at the hand of Arya Stark who ultimately slayed the Night King and, in turn, the entire army of the dead, Jorah Mormont fell to his death. He stuck through the battle to protect his Queen, Daenerys Stormborn, who was dragonless and left to fight the battle with a sword. The pair had an emotional goodbye as Jorah died in the Queen’s arms.
