Peak brings a refreshing dose of wonder that exemplifies a career path as dazzling as it was unexpected. The young star was born in Kampala, Uganda, to a hairdresser mother and a Canadian helicopter-pilot father and spent the first 10 years of her life in a small Ugandan town before moving to Canada, not far from Vancouver. “Today, I’m an actor—it’s crazy,” she says, still incredulous, as we sit in the Parisian studio where she’s being photographed for this cover shoot.
When Peak was younger, she dreamed of becoming a lawyer. “I had a passion for psychology and criminology,” she says. “Then, one day when I was about 12 or 13, I heard on the radio that there was a casting call in Vancouver for Disney. I was a fan of their shows so I begged my mom and we went to a casting that turned out to be a scam.” Charging monthly payments, a fake talent agent promised Peak roles that never came.
Although the young actor is only at the beginning of her career, she has already made a mark in both Hollywood and the fashion world, yet she doesn’t take it for granted for a second. “I get a lot of my values and beliefs from my mother,” says Peak. “She’s a very charismatic, sensible, disciplined and pragmatic woman, but she’s also very generous. She’s my role model. My biggest fear would be to disappoint her.
