The Vancouver Whitecaps supporters’ groups stayed true to their word Wednesday night, walking out in droves from Wednesday night’s game against Los Angeles FC at B.C. Place.
The charges levelled by the players have brewed a firestorm of criticism against the two organizations for weeks, and a statement released by the Whitecaps on Wednesday — promising an “independent third-party review and assessment of … workplace policies and procedures” — was preceded by the Vancouver Police Department confirming the team had made them aware of the former players’ allegations.
The coach at the centre of the allegations has been suspended from his role coaching with a B.C. Premier League U17 girls club. B.C. Soccer, which had announced their own inquiry into the hiring practices that allowed the coach to resume working with young women despite the allegations against him, said Monday that a third-party assessment will be conducted by the Canadian law firm Rubin Thomlinson LLP, which specializes in workplace and institutional investigations and assessments.
