LONDON—Some Conservative candidates are adopting a damage-control strategy ahead of a vote this month that threatens to further imperil British Prime Minister Theresa May and her ruling party: Don’t mention Brexit.
The Conservative Party is projected to sustain sizable losses in local-council elections on Thursday, the first large-scale vote after Mrs. May failed three times to win passage in Parliament of a deal to secure the U.K.’s exit from the European Union.
