Despite its romantic reputation, Santorini has plenty to offer solo, group, and family travelers.
Santorini, Greece, with its whitewashed buildings and blazing sunsets, is known to be one of the most romantic places in the world. And for many who travel there, that’s exactly what they seek. It’s a well-known hotspot for honeymooners, proposers, and the besotted.
Still, solo or family travelers shouldn’t let the Cyclades island’s love-laden reputation deter them from visiting. If done right, it can also be the setting for a carefree holiday. First thing’s first—and this may be controversial—avoid staying in the most well-known town of Oia. It’s by far the most touristy spot on the island, regularly flooded with cruise ship day-trippers. It also has a large swath of cliffside, couple-filled boutique hotels . Rather than settling in the area, just meander over there for an afternoon or a dinner—although do take travel time into account: many have stories of terrible evening-time traffic jams.
Instead, here’s what to do in Santorini, whether you’re traveling by yourself, with friends, or with family., located in the less-trafficked town of Imerovigli, is focused on a health and rejuvenation experience. It has the largest spa on the island—which includes a treatment room built into an outdoor cave and a yoga room overlooking the Aegan Sea. They have their own fruit and vegetable garden, and the menu is focused around fresh, local, and sustainable ingredients.
For those with little ones, the hotel not only offers villas with multiple bedrooms, but also a kid spa, family cooking classes, and even kid yoga.
