'I just felt like women deserved a better Harley Quinn movie.'
. Men take the character of The Joker so seriously, it’s honestly embarrassing—which makes what I’m about to say even more embarrassing.Marvel has Brie Larson’s. I’m someone who thinks thefranchise is legitimately good, unironically. And I love a cheesy empowerment moment, likefour times in theaters—these are movies that I genuinely enjoy and will show up for. But thus far, there hasn’t been a female-fronted comic book movie that’s not a cheesy, poppy superhero-genre movie.
But the Joker, as a character, is all of the aforementioned things: acerbic, playful, child-like yet deadly. So, why wasn’t Harley Quinn’s movie a sinister and morose romp through the mind of a wounded supervillain? This movie could’ve had the depth and power that a movie likehad. It could’ve showcased Quinn’s dark past, her own well of hurt—this is what origin story or solo-movies are.
