The short answer: soon.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Relief from the Canadian wildfire smoke should start to arrive late Friday afternoon as a storm system from northern Canada moves into the Great Lakes region and winds start to shift, according to the National Weather Service.high levels of small particulates in the air because of the smoke, but not nearly at levels that have been experienced along the East Coast.
As a result of the changing weather patterns, northern winds that have been bringing smoke into Ohio will gradually shift, becoming more westerly and then coming out of the south by Sunday, NWS meteorologist Kirk Lombardy said. “There could be a thunderstorm as well,” Lombardy said. About three-quarters of an inch of rain is expected in total.for PM 2.5, which are fine particulates with a diameter of 2.5 microns or less. They are the biggest health concern related to the smoke because they are small enough to get into lungs and cause inflammation and other health concerns.
The air quality index for the Cleveland-Akron-Lorain area is determined by the highest reading among several monitoring stations, Lee said.
