Since being called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Everson Pereira is hitting .143 with a 39.2 strikeout rate in 21 games played.

Thinking through Pereira’s three-plus weeks with the Yankees, only a handful of encouraging moments come to mind on offense. There’s the double off the wall in left-center field in Houston earlier this month, a two-run double at Yankee Stadium on Sept. 7 and Pereira’s first MLB hit, a line drive into the corner in left.

Again, we’re still very much in the small-sample-size territory here. The purpose of Pereira’s promotion was to reward a prospect for a strong campaign in the minors and give him a few weeks of unconditional playing time, a full-time opportunity to develop at the highest level and show off what he’s capable of.
