. I could not afford, monetarily or time-wise, the expense of going to an inpatient rehab and could not afford to pay out of pocket for an intensive outpatient program . All it really did was help other people make sense of why I didn’t drink, make sense of my relationship with alcohol, or make sense of their own relationship with alcohol.
I wanted to create an aspirational, desirable path to recovery that was more accessible than the traditional roads. So I created something for myself that brought together all of the things I needed—and many other people need—in order to holistically, fully recover from substance use disorder. You don’t have to identify as an alcoholic, it’s at a more affordable price point than something like inpatient rehab, and you don’t have to go away for 30 days.Historically, we’ve run an eight-week program based on three pillars: content, community, and care. For content, we teach people about recovery: what’s happening to their, why they have cravings, how to reframe relapse, how to eat to heal, breath work, meditation.
Then community. There’s always an online community with small breakout groups and larger Q&As and support group calls. And for the care component, we have hired peer-trained coaches. Everyone who signs up for our Accountability Coaching has live video calls with their coaches to address their specific goals.Most people in the community choose not to be anonymous. You can do a lot of things to keep yourself anonymous, but most people find strength in being seen.
You mentioned an increase in demand over the past couple of months, with a user increase of 35% and email inquiries almost quadrupled. How else have things changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic?
