Baylan Skoll could change Star Wars forever.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary In Ahsoka episode 7, Baylan Skoll makes some strange decisions regarding himself and his Padawan, Shin Hati. Baylan’s character is one of the most intriguing in the series given his true allegiance and true plan remain a mystery. However, there have been plenty of hints that he’s dropped throughout the show that act like pieces to a puzzle.
In Ahsoka episode 7, Baylan parts ways with Shin and tells her that his path lies in a different direction than Thrawn’s. This is a strange move. Up till now, he’s seemingly had grand plans for his Padawan. Nevertheless, he suddenly decides to abandon her in favor of chasing the folktales that drive him. Either he’s curious about the truth behind the ancient children’s stories he heard at the Temple, or the thing he’s seeking has possessed and overtaken him.
If not Abeloth, then there are plenty of other theories surrounding who or what Baylan is searching for. It’s possible that Filoni is borrowing lore from the Star Wars Jedi games and introducing the Zeffo—ancient beings who were hinted at in Ahsoka episode 6—to live-action. Filoni may also bring back an ancient Nightsister beast mentioned in The Clone Wars season 6, known as the Malmourral.
Not only does Baylan know how Thrawn doesn’t think highly of him, but he also isn’t interested in joining Thrawn’s regime in the first place. He’s already explained to Shin that the power Thrawn seeks is fleeting. Baylan may be one of the few characters to realize why Thrawn wants to get back to his original galaxy in the first place. He sees that Thrawn isn’t the real villain in Ahsoka, and senses Thrawn and the Great Mothers are fleeing from something else on Peridea.
