Three-year-old Sarah Campbell-Scholzberg was clearly excited to begin her educational journey on her first day of junior kindergarten in East York, when she was photographed by the Star in September 1987.

Despite her Bachelor of Commerce degree, Police Foundations diploma and career as a financial services administrator and corporal in the Canada Armed Forces, Thompson admits she wasn’t exactly a natural scholar to start. Being so young at the time, Thompson doesn’t fully remember her first day of JK, but she does recall a few things. “My teacher was a nice, tall woman with brown hair,” she says. “And I remember loving the playground the school had at the time.”
