A chat with Charleston Bowles, who covers Notre Dame recruiting for Rivals, about what Saturday's game could mean for the outlook for both recruiting outfits.
“It starts by winning on Saturday,” Bowles said. “You have to show that on-field result. It’s a great opportunity for Notre Dame and coach Freeman.”
“I really think that head coach Marcus Freeman really leans into the academic aspect of things a lot for Notre Dame,” Bowles said. “I know, with a lot of recruits I talked to, they always talked about the “4 For 40″ plan that Freeman and his staff touched on. And that means the four years that Notre Dame will set you up for 40 years of your life. Freeman really leans into what a degree does for you. And, recruits tell me all the time, he’s very transparent.
Bowles said that Notre Dame has expanded the recruiting board since Brian Kelly left, but the lack of major wins in major spots remains a tough obstacle to work around.“I know talks to some recruits and he says, ‘We want to win a national championship. We want to get back to that stage,’” Bowles said.
