What Bryce Harper's mega-deal means for the Red Sox' pricey players:

For some reason, Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts didn’t have dollar signs replacing his eyeballs when talking about Bryce Harper’s mega free agent deal with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

"No. Not really. We're all different players," Betts told the media assembled in Fort Myers, Fla."We all have different things that are important. Like I said, good for those guys. They deserve it. We'll just continue to worry about what's going on now." And Betts is probably right to not lump himself in with all three big names that recently signed. Betts, the reigning American League MVP, probably resides in a stratosphere that he only shares with Los Angeles Angels outfield Mike Trout. Like Betts, Trout can be a free agent after 2020 and it’ll be interesting to see which player blinks first and signs an extension, if either does before becoming free.
