People with Covid in England may soon no longer have to self-isolate after testing positive
There will "soon be a time" when self-isolation for people with Covid is not required in England, Boris Johnson has said.
Currently some people with Covid can stop isolating after five full days if they are in England, or seven days elsewhere in the UK.The current self-isolation regulations run out on 24 March. The PM told Parliament he does not expect to renew the rules and said they could end sooner if Covid data allows.
He said that "as Covid becomes endemic" - constantly present - the government will "replace legal requirements with advice and guidance urging people with the virus to be careful and considerate of others".Health Secretary Sajid Javid also said he was "optimistic" the government would shortly be able to "remove all restrictions around Covid".
