Julius Brents' draft stock has been on the rise for weeks now, but what are his best NFL fits? Here are 4 teams that could/should take him in the 2023 NFLDraft.
It all started with a phenomenal showing at the, where Julius Brents used his excellent size and length—his 34-inch arms were tied for the longest of any cornerback at this year’s NFL Combine—to lock down just about every receiver in Mobile. It didn’t matter if they were bigger, taller, contested-catch guys like Xavier Hutchinson or shorter, shiftier guys like Tank Dell. If they were lined up across from Brents in one-on-one drills, Brents was shutting them down.
The Kansas State product only continued his upward momentum in draft stock at the NFL Combine in early March. Not only did he measure in as one of the lengthiest cornerbacks in attendance, but his testing numbers were also off the charts. Brents’ 41.5-inch vertical leap was the second-highest of all cornerbacks and fourth-highest of all Combine participants. His broad jump, measuring in at 11.5 feet, was the best of any attendee this year and a top-10 number in NFL Combine history.
Brents has some absolutely elite tools and measurables that he’s backed up on the field and on film. The Senior Bowl was a great showing, but he was shutting down a top wide receiver in this draft class, Quentin Johnston, about a month earlier in the Big 12 Championship. Brents would be a big addition to any team, but here are the four teams that serve as his best fits.
One of Booth’s greatest strengths was his stickiness in man coverage during his time at Clemson, whereas Brents projects well as a zone corner, something that Peterson also thrived in during his time in Minnesota. Teaming up two versatile and athletic young cornerbacks on the outside with a promising young safety flanking them could be a dream come true for new Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and lead to a dominant secondary in Minnesota for years to come.
Julius Brents can be another tall, lengthy corner for the Detroit secondary that can play press and get physical against some of the division’s best receivers and come out on top. That’s exactly the kind of player the Lions need to add as they move closer and closer to contention and out of their rebuilding period.
