'Technology is going to bridge the gap between the number of workers that are available and the number of workers that are needed,' a Westmarc leader said during a workforce event on Monday.
Although Arizona recovered its lost jobs from the Covid-19 pandemic faster than other states, many West Valley employers say they still face hiring challenges due to a lack of skilled workers, competition with other businesses and people"ghosting" hiring managers.
The West Valley comprises about 15 communities across 3,000 square miles all west of Interstate 17, according to. This part of the Valley is currently home to about 1.8 million residents, multiple sports facilities and a growing number of entertainment, dining and shopping options. It is also includes Luke Air Force Base, which employs 7,450 people and has a nearly $1 billion direct economic impact to the state.
It has also been implementing a five-year regional workforce development strategy called West Valley Pipeline to help increase high-wage jobs, support industry workforce needs and current workforce, improve quality of life and reduce commute times for West Valley residents and workers. Through this, Westmarc said it has focused on industry and education partnerships, communication strategies and community outreach.
Through this, Westmarc is hoping to win a Type-1 award, or a $1 million grant for up to two years of planning and establishing an NSF"engine."catalyze innovation ecosystems in regions across the U.S., as well as develop a workforce and"enhance" the nation's economic and industrial competitiveness and national security.
