Surrey man, 30, faces multiple charges, including possessing child sexual-abuse material, sexual interference and sexual assault, after investigation by Surrey RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit
A Surrey man has been charged with possessing child sexual-abuse material and other offences in a case involving two teenage girls, one on the West Shore and another in Surrey. The offences occurred between July 2020 and February 2022, the Surrey RCMP said Friday.
The investigation involved communication on such online platforms as Facebook and Snapchat. Police said it is believed that two Facebook accounts were sharing explicit content, with one of them thought to be a youth’s account.Surrey resident Tanner Adam Duffy, 30, has been charged with three counts of possessing child sexual-abuse material, and one count each of sexual interference, sexual assault, assault, forcible confinement and making sexually explicit material available to a child under 16.
He has been released on conditions that include not going to any public park, swimming area or community centre where people under 16 could be expected to be present, not communicating with anyone under 16, and not accessing any computer network — including the Internet. Surrey RCMP Cpl. Corporal Vanessa Munn said the Internet Child Exploitation Unit is a team of specially trained investigators whose primary goal is to protect children and youth from harm, and prevent further victimization.
Investigators work closely with partners such as the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, and participate in programs like Project Arachnid, which issues take-down notices to electronic service providers to remove child sexual-exploitation images from the Internet, Munn said.
