West Shore RCMP to leave regional mental health, youth and domestic violence teams

At the end of 2025 and 2026, the West Shore RCMP will no longer be part of the regional mental health, youth and domestic violence teams.

At the end of 2025 and 2026, the West Shore RCMP will no longer be part of the regional mental health, youth and domestic violence teams to focus on its own units that cover those areas.the Integrated Mobile Crisis Response Team and Mobile Youth Service Team by Dec. 31, 2025 and the Regional Domestic Violence Unit by Dec. 31, 2026.

The detachment has a Mental Health Unit that launched in February 2024. Since it launched it has responded to 513 out of 944 mental health calls, according to the RCMP, compared to the IMCRT which has responded to 35 calls in the West Shore from January 2023 to July 2024. The officer and counsellor work with kids on a referral and proactive basis and work on mentoring and prevention strategies.
