The grocery store could not withstand the economic pressures of the pandemic.
Community Foods Market, West Oakland's only full-scale grocery store, is closing at the end of this week. The store at 3105 San Pablo Ave. announced the decision Thursday on Instagram, as first reported by the"Like so many small businesses across the country, the economic pressures of the pandemic have become too much for our small and young business to bear," read the.
"In addition to being undercapitalized from the day we opened in June 2019, Community Foods Market was only open for 8 months when the pandemic began. This led to a shaky foundation from which to endure the impacts of the pandemic: a customer traffic decline of 30%, labor shortages of 20-30%, supply chain shortages of 30-40% and the highest rate of inflation in 39 years."
