WOLFVILLE, N.S. — Early spring is a grand time for culture in Wolfville as student musicians demonstrate their talent in end of the school year concerts and showcases., which was postponed since the start of the pandemic. Four years later and now the long-awaited concert tour is ready to head for the First World War battlefields of France and Belgium to commemorate the anniversary of Lt. Col. John McCrae’s familiar poem In Flanders Field.
“At the time, I was only familiar with two musical versions of In Flanders Fields, both written for choir,” she has said. In preparing for the class, Boyd found more than 50 song versions of the poem published during the First World War. Acadia University Singers are hosting a concert to launch their trip to France and Belgium to commemorate the anniversary of Lt. Col. John McCrae’s familiar poem In Flanders Field. Contributed“I can almost guarantee they will see the world differently after this trip. My own views changed dramatically after I visited the battlefields and cemeteries in 2016,” said Robicheau.
The choir will visit and sing at the gravesites of some of Acadia’s soldiers buried in France and Belgium. A tour launch is set for April 19 in Lunenburg at St. John’s Anglican Church, and then April 20 at Denton Hall Auditorium in Wolfville. Both concerts begin at 7 p.m. Admission will be by freewill donation.at the Al Whittle Theatre to kick off fundraising for a new Wolfville library. Plans are to create a new combined library and town hall where the existing town hall stands on Main Street.
Murder by the Book is the kick-off to the campaign. The play-within-a-play, written by Antigonish playwright Laura Teasdale, with support from famed novelist Louise Penny, will be performed by an enthusiastic, talented, all-local cast and crew.
